I purchased it from a dealer at the 1999 Monster Rally in Virginia.... The dealer told me that he had it in his personal collection for many years before he put it out for sale.

Signed at the first Monster Bash convention in 1997, which is still held every summer near Pittsburgh. Bill Cardille is often featured as a "Special Ghast" at the Bash; "Terminal Stare" and "Stephen the Castle Prankster" have also appeared.

CHILLY BILLY GOES ON RECORD (Gateway Recordings LP, GSL-0919, undated)

SIDE ONE:

1. "Boston Strangler" (56 sec. show skit) Bill grumpily climbs out of bed to answer the knock of a killer at the door -- "Honey, it's for you!");
   
   
2. Introduction (30 sec.);
   
   
3. "Captain Bad Man on the Street Interview" (7:07 min.) spotlighting Bill's show character "Captain Bad" (apparently a spoof of the Captain Nice superhero spoof that was on network TV at the time), an anti-hero who revels in describing his "e-vile" pranks;
   
   
4. "Strange But True" (10 sec.) introduction to three stories allegedly based on fact (this type of material was often performed straight-faced on the show with atmospheric music):
   
   
   • "Pearl Harbor" (1:32);
     
     
   • "Robert Todd Lincoln" (2:05);
     
     
   • "Alexander Smith" (2:45).

SIDE TWO:

1. "Live at the Dead End" (14:01 monologue recorded live at a Pittsburgh nightclub) Bill Cardille visits Comedy Hell, but gamely keeps pitching those one-liners!;
   
   
2. "It's Camp" (4:07) skit about kid's letters from camp.

CHILLY BILLY's VAMP (45 rpm, Vampire Records 104, undated)

SIDE A: "Chilly Billy's Vamp" (2:51) — Sung by Bill Cardille over weird music. Credited to Ronnie Treece.

SIDE B: "Strange But True Tales" (5:55) — Narrated by Bill Cardille; 2nd voice: John Yelland.

E-gorespondant "ChillyBilly Fan" provided details:

There are three "Strange But True Tales" that appear on the flipside of the Chilly Billy's Vamp 45. They are:

1. the coincidences between the lives and deaths of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy

2. a premonition in a dream by "Reverend Charles Morgan in Rhode Island" of the sinking of the Titanic, and

3. driver "Harry Cooper" keeps passing a hitchhiker who grows older each time and scares Cooper into plunging his car over a guard rail to "his firey death."

These are genuinely creepy and feature special sound effects. I am pretty sure that at least the 1st two also were done by Chilly on Chiller Theater.

THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF "EXPERIMENT IN TERROR" — THE MUSIC USED ON CHILLER THEATER

(NOTE: This is NOT the version used on the show -- see following section for that arrangement!)

Chiller Theater's theme music is Henry Mancini's "Experiment in Terror," composed for Blake Edwards' creepy 1962 thriller starring Glenn Ford, Lee Remick and Ross Martin ("Artemus Gordon" on TV's Wild Wild West) as a psycho stalker! The soundtrack, originally released on an LP album and now available on CD, includes several versions of the spooky title tune. Mancini's main theme has been used on other TV horror showcases (notably Chicago's Creature Features), and has been covered by guitar bands and other groups many times since then.

THE ARRANGEMENT OF "EXPERIMENT IN TERROR" ACTUALLY USED ON CHILLER THEATER

The version of Mancini's "Experiment in Terror" used as Chiller Theater theme music is a raunchy, twangy guitar and saxophone arrangement performed by guitarist Al Caiola. It has been released on a "greatest hits" compilation CD called Al Caiola: Bonanza! 1960-69 (Raven Records, Australia).

GATEWAY CLIPPER CRUISE CARD SIGNED BY CHILLER THEATER CAST

From the collection of Todd Warren, who bought it on eBay and says:

I have learned through a little reasearch that the photo was taken aboard the Majestic Clipper during the annual Chiller Theater Cruise. Stevie and Terminal Stare attend the cruise with Chilly every Halloween.

MONSTERMAD #1 (E-gor's own monsterzine)

This 64-page fanzine premiered at the first Monster Bash in 1997. Forry Ackerman liked it so much he wanted 20 copies to send to friends, including Hugh Hefner and Steven Spielberg!
