• As lawyer "Broughton" in the stylish English horror classic The Ghoul (1934) — one of the antagonists driving Professor Morlant (Boris Karloff) to seek revenge from beyond the grave.
  
  
• As "Theotocopulos" in H.G. Wells' cautionary vision of the future, Things to Come (1936).
  
  
• As H. Rider Haggard's Great White Hunter / adventurer "Allan Quatermain" in King Solomon's Mines (1937), helping Umbopa (the magnificent Paul Robeson) regain his kingdom in untamed Africa.
  
  
• As saintly "Dr. David Livingstone" (I presume), welcoming Spencer Tracy to his jungle hospital in Stanley and Livingstone (1939).
  
  
• The very personification of Death, "Mr. Brink," caught up a tree by an old man who isn't ready to go (Lionel Barrymore) in On Borrowed Time (1939).
  
  
• As the monstrous religious zealot "Frollo" in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939), lusting after Maureen O'Hara's Esmeralda while plotting her death, and getting his very satisying comeuppance at the hands of Charles Laughton's fabulous Quasimodo.
  
  
• As "Richard Cobb," adversary of title character Vincent Price in The Invisible Man Returns (1940).
  
  
• As "Dr. Ludwig Frankenstein," second son of the original mad doctor, from whom he inherits his flair for crackpot science and promethean creativity, in Ghost of Frankenstein (1942), fourth in Universal's series. (Cedric also plays his ancestor in a ghostly vision.) In this one, Dr. Frankenstein unwittingly helps Dr. Bohmer (Lionel Atwill) to transplant the brain of Ygor (Bela Lugosi) into the empty skull of the Monster (Lon Chaney Jr.), thereby creating the greatest monster of them all!
  
  
• As "Conrad Stauffer," a Nazi officer conspiring with his sadistic Japanese ally Baron Ikito (Peter Lorre) to thwart the transparent heroism of of Jon Hall's Invisible Agent (1942).
  
  
• As "Robert Burton," fascinated by news of the Ripper murders while harboring the fiend (superbly played by Laird Cregar) under his own roof in The Lodger (1944).
